The objective of this paper is to follow up on the conditions faced by the female labor force working in the electronic maquiladora industry in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Zone (GMZ), in the state of Jalisco, given the flexibility of labor relations in the electronics industry.
We start by considering what is the importance of analyzing the participation of the female labor force in the electronic maquiladora industry? The participation of the female labor force has been relevant since the beginning of the industry in the sixties, since it has represented up to 80% of its labor force. This phenomenon has had important variations, especially considering the rebound of the electronics industry in the state, particularly in the second half of the nineties, and a drastic decline since 2001, as a consequence of the North American economic crisis and the incorporation of China to the World Trade Organization (WTO), country to which some of the electronic plants established in Mexico have migrated.
In this sense, it is important to be aware of the new conditions faced by the female labor force in the labor market, which have led to the precariousness of their working conditions.
