The article provides a critical analysis of the theoretical foundation of the neoclassical model of international trade from the perspective of ecological economics. The basic developments of classical trade theory and its evolution towards the neoclassical view are analyzed. Finally, some interpretations derived from the theoretical model of ecological economics are presented to conceptualize the environmental impacts of the application of the neoliberal model of international trade.
