Ceramic handicrafts in Tonalá and Tlaquepaque, towards oblivion or rescue? Comparison according to the Economic Censuses 1994-1999-2004

The purpose of this paper is to carry out a comparative study of the development of activities related to the manufacture of ceramic and clay handicrafts in the last three decades, specifically in the municipalities of Tonalá and Tlaquepaque, Jalisco, based on official records from the economic censuses. The study is divided into four parts: the first part reviews the behavior of the handicraft establishments during the period 1994-1999; the second part continues with the analysis in the period 1999-2004; the third part is characterized by reviewing the census information of the ceramic handicrafts of both municipalities, from a perspective of the decade 1994-2004; while the fourth part deals with the object of study, based on the stratification of companies, according to the number of employees in the period 1999-2004.
