In this paper we analyze the process of urban development, in particular the case of un-derdeveloped countries. Following this line of thought we propose interpretations that help us to understand the nature of their complex problems. In its first part the material deals with the effects of globalization in the context of global urban processes. In the second part, we describe the fundamental principles the more representative theoretical schools. In the third and final part, we present a reflection on the causes of the formation of megacities in pour countries and their place in the system of global cities.
