Abstract

The present work analyzes the literature about the application of specific environmental policies on the part of the government that harmonically ties the economic progress and sustainable development. With this background, this paper examines the theoretical foundations of each instrument; at the same time it contrasts their strengths and weaknesses as well in the economic context as in the environmental one. Finally, this paper studies the implications of these environmental policies on the contemporary theoretical frameworks, for example, on international trade, foreign direct investment and institutional economy.
