The objectives of this essay are: a) to provide an overview of the notions of water as a human right, from the comprehensive to the simplified view, b) to learn about international initiatives to achieve its legal and institutional recognition, and c) to evaluate the case of the Mexican State in terms of respect and/or violation of the human right to water.
