Abstract

The topic of poverty is a taboo topic in Cuba. The Cuban authorities promote the country as having upper-middle income and no studies are conceived that address the issue of poverty from the scientific academy or the official media. However, the reality of Cuba from 2017 onwards, with the Trump administration in power, the tightening of the economic blockade and the addition of other impact issues, projects a generalized crisis in all sectors. This situation is an alarm to think about poverty as a problem and draw up social policies that understand local development as a viable path to recovery.
