Abstract

The objective of the study is to analyze the impact of COVID-19 on global, regional and national international tourism as well as its recovery. A theoretical microeconomic analysis of the market of interest is carried out; quantitative at a descriptive level of the variables over time with data from the website of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO); at an inferential level for the global case with which the trend of international arrivals in the absence of COVID-19 is analyzed and contrasted with actual arrivals. The results show that by March 2023 globally, 80.71 percent of the pre-pandemic level has been reached, in the Americas region almost 87 percent, and in Mexico it has reached 84.72 percent of the level registered in 2019. Regionally, the Middle East has surpassed the pre-pandemic level while the Asia and Pacific region has recovered more slowly.
