Since environmental externalities have a spatial dimension, many of the pollution cases are treated and analyzed within this context. Cases of environmental externalities may be closely related to decisions made for the use of resources and/or spaces, both in rural and urban environments.
Air pollution problems may be the result of industrial patterns whose waste is generated by unregulated processes of substance disposal. On the other hand, there are also problems that are not related to air pollution but are due to the inadequate use of spaces: for economic reasons, land that has a special environmental value related to ecological projects and/or aesthetic values is eliminated.
In the present work, a bibliographic review of some works, methods and theories that address the problem of environmental externalities is made. The works carried out present different methodological structures to demonstrate the essence of the problem.
