This article deals with appendix B from the book Competitive strategy. Techniques for the analysis of the industrial and competition sectors. The appendix is entitled: “How to perform an analysis of the industry”. In it, Porter proposes a methodological strategy to analyze the industry, and provides a series of recommendations on how to carry out field research; proposes categories of raw data in the industry analysis, recommends sources and search studies for the examination detailed, the data collection and the characteristics of the sources that should be consulted. At the same time the article is enriched by various sources that strengthen the concepts raised by the author of the book. The objective of this work is to provide students of administrative areas, academic researchers and beginning professionals of the area, with a valuable tool for research and analysis of industry and competition.
