The article explores some elements of the performance of the European Union's trade relations with Mexico from the perspective of the impact on the environment. It analyzes the terms of the negotiation with respect to the environmental issue and its relationship with the neoliberal model. The industrialization process of the Santiago River basin in the Guadalajara metropolitan area is discussed as an example. Finally, some ideas are advanced on the possibility of contributing to a fair trade that promotes the conservation and development of the environment through the social use of nature.
