Abstract

This paper analyzes the impact of economic growth in the generation of new jobs for Mexico. With this aim, we develop a log-log econometric model that enables us to measure the elasticity of employment relative to GDP. As a result, we found that employment is inelastic with respect to the product. This means that the Mexican economy faces high costs in job creation, a situation that is exacerbated in periods of economic and financial crisis.
