Abstract

In March 2020, the government closed sectors and economic activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic, including the education sector. This required adjustments in the teaching and learning model, especially in higher education. It marked the beginning of a new era in which only a few professors were prepared to adapt to the changes.

This challenge provided an opportunity to develop global competencies, incorporate technological innovation, utilize Open Educational Resources (OER), and implement a hybrid and flipped classroom approach. The pilot course "Environmental Impact Assessment," taught by professors from various university centers at the University of Guadalajara, addressed topics related to environmental economics, ecological economics, and methods of environmental impact assessment. It fostered systemic thinking and facilitated cultural and linguistic exchange among students from different regions of Jalisco and exchange students.
