Located in the municipality of Zapopan, The University Center for Economic and Administrative Sciences emerged in 1995 from the integration of four faculties: Accounting, Economics, Administration and Tourism; and four academic units dedicated to research: the Center for Research in Economic Theory, the Center for Social and Economic Research, the Center for Tourism Research and the Institute for Economic and Regional Studies. With the departmental model of the University Network of Jalisco, the Divisions of Accounting, Economics and Society, and Business Management were created, which has contributed to greater academic collaboration and the enrichment of educational programs.

The transformation of CUCEA in these 20 years has been remarkable and it is now at the forefront of the University Network due to the quality of its facilities, infrastructure and academic staff. The educational offerings were expanded to achieve a 22% increase in undergraduate enrollment from 1995 to date. In the field of research, the number of professors who are members of the National System of Researchers increased from 6 in 1995 to 70 in 2014. Similarly, enrollment in graduate programs increased from 180 students in 1995 to an average of 969 students in the last three years.

New institutes and research centers have been created, such as: the Institute for the Development of Innovation and Technology in Small and Medium Enterprises (IDITpyme), the Center for Quality and Innovation in Higher Education, the Institute for Research in Public Policy and the Center for Innovation and Business Excellence.

It is currently the largest university center in the university network in terms of enrollment. Today it serves about 22,000 students.
